Power Tools

(HBC Haebangchon, Seoul)

Power Tools; the sixth in a series of events in a year long experiment at our HBC event and performance space in the residential area of Haebangchon, Seoul. Power Tools was a workshop undertaken done in collaboration with the Pleasure Lab sex shop, Seoul. Limited to six participants, Power Tools was advertised locally, on Seoul-based social media platforms as well as across the art world.

Brief history
1734 One of the first vibrators was invented in France and called the Tremoussoir.
1869 The first steam-powered vibrator called the Manipulator, was invented by American physician George Taylor.
1880, Dr. Joseph Mortimer Granville patented an electromechanical vibrator.
1835 - 1920, Gustav Zander designed a device that was often used to attain an orgasm, although it was primarily designed as an aid against eating disorders.
1902 The American company Hamilton Beach patented the first electric vibrator available for consumer retail sale as opposed to medical usage, making the vibrator the fifth domestic appliance to be electrified, after the sewing machine, fan, tea kettle and toaster, and about a decade before the vacuum cleaner and electric iron.
