The Growing Manual Seoul Museum of Art, South Korea
Established in 2012, the Growing Manual project worked with artist collectives around the world to examine how artists organised and improvised in response to the then current political, social and economic challenges they were faced with. The Growing Manual project is a micro economy, network of relations, installation and publication. The project was exhibited in Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) where various kinds of individually and collectively produced materials were brought together around three themes: matter, utopia and collectivism were installed in the space of the museum. As part of the exhibition, the Growing Manual shop (established in negotiation with SeMA) sold exhibited purchased directly to the visitor as part of the exhibition. This included a wide range of materials produced by the artist collectives including furniture, small objects, images, books, clothes, film and video work and local plants and trees sent by the collectives, that were maintained and continued to grow and be sold as part of the exhibition.
