Disappearing Mural

Department of Architecture, Cork City, Ireland

Commissioned to create
a site-specific work on a large 1970s style housing estate overlookingthe city. worked from what I considered to be the most significant feature of the site – the weather – as it rained more or less continuously, the finished work consisted of enlarging and repeating a simple 1970s wallpaper pattern (originally found in the now renovated flats) across the entire surface of the five large brick-built housing blocks in special ‘wet-look’ transparent varnish. This had the effect of making the work almost entirely disappear when the surface of the brick was wet which was more or less all of the time.
Materials: Transparent Sealant
Dimensions: Variable size
